"International Turning Exchange"
Wood Turning Center
of
Philadelphia, PA
In 1995 the Wood Turning Center established the "International Turning Exchange", a highly successful, international artist residency program, focused on wood and other lathe-turned art, furniture, scholarship and documentation of this art. This highly competitive development experience provides four professional lathe turners, one furniture maker, one scholar and one photojournalist representng several different countries with an experience that radically transforms their outlook and their work. The participants challenge themselves and each other to study, explore new work and diffuse this freshness in their approaches when they return to their native countries. Every summer, a new group of International Turning Exchange resident fellows spends eight weeks working and living together in Philadelphia. This exhibit will first tour the United States and then travel to the artists' native countries.
