Although Bob Ross died in 1995, his “Joy of Painting” still lives on in workshops across the U.S. The Bob Ross style painting classes bring confidence, pride & joy to students who never dreamed they could paint. Although not considered fine art, these classes encourage people to paint, to laugh, to feel a sense of accomplishment, to believe in themselves and to realize “you can do it”.
Sandy Seamone & T.R. Mathews have been Bob Ross painting instructors for the past 18 years. After teaching in Logan for over a decade, they have come to know and love residents and fellow painters in our area. Based out of Arriba, Colorado, Sandy & T.R. travel to cities in Kansas such as Topeka, Manhattan, Deerfield and Logan. Casper and Cheyenne, Wyoming are also along their regular teaching route.
The class will be held October 17 & 18 from 9 A.M. - noon & 1 P.M. - 3 P.M.

Jo Campbell-Amsler has been using willow in her basketry work for the past twenty-six years and specializes in using rib-style techniques. She works from her studio, Willow Ridge in Monticello, IA, teaching her style of basketry and selling her pieces throughout the United States at basket guild conferences and at several notable art schools including Arrowmont School of Arts and Craft (TN), John C. Campbell Folk School (NC) and Sievers School of Fiber Arts (WI). While most of her baskets are functional, she is nontraditional in her approach to using found objects from nature in her work and likes to push the willow to form some sculptural aspects, often creating “one-of-a-kind” baskets.
“I am a gatherer, and I find an endless source of materials and inspiration in the objects and visual experiences I collect from the natural world. I use many different types of gathered materials, but willow is the foundation or “heart” for all my work. Finding, gathering and processing willow are all part of the ritual that leads to a finished piece, and the feel, the fragrance, the color and sheen, the essence of willow–all of these are integral to each piece. The simple construction and clear lines of rib-style or frame basketry techniques give shape, definition and strength to my work, whether I design a functional piece or create a free-form sculpture. My baskets are my way of sharing what I gather from the natural world.”

The Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum takes great pride in hosting a four day painting workshop with Master Pastelist, Kaye Franklin. Franklin instructed an oil l& pastel class in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and has been asked to return in 2009 by popular demand. Kaye Franklin began her art career in 1975 while living in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She and her family moved to Graham, Texas in 1979. It was then that she began a serious quest for the best schools and instructors. Franklin studied at the Scottsdale Artist School and with Connecticut artist William Henry Earle. Her pursuit of excellence has won her the deepest respect of her students, peers and serious collectors. She has received many national honors that have culminated in her recognition as master pastelist, and her election to signature membership in the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America.
The elements in her artwork consist of light, color and focal point. She likes working with both pastels and oils. Pastels show immediate results and they stay brilliant, oils allow you to create new colors from existing pigments.
Franklin teaches weekly classes and conducts several workshops at various locations throughout the year. Kaye has taught in Canada, Mexico, England, France, Spain, Italy and the Pacific Northwest. Her work can be seen at the Victorian Gallelry in Dallas, Texas and Zantman Gallery in Ketchum, Idaho.
The class will be held November 12-14, 2009.

The Dane G. Hansen Memorial Museum is proud to present the “32nd Annual High School Art Exhibit”. Art students from area schools look forward to showing off their artistic talents in the Hansen Museum gallery as we look forward to displaying their fabulous works. This year’s exhibition will be from February 6, 2009 through March 8, 2009 and consists of a variety of art forms. Displayed by category, they are: watercolor & tempera, ink & scratch board, oil & acrylic, sculptural & 3-D, pencil & drawing, graphic design, jewelry, ceramics, colored pencil, printmaking, pastel, crayon, charcoal, and mixed media.
Students strive to create a piece of art that represents him or her as an artist, whether by personality, creativity, excellence of quality, or even their mood. Some pieces may be a whimsical creation from the artist’s own imagination, while others are reproductions of a given lesson. Whatever the case may be, these students put on a show for all to see.
This annual exhibition speaks highly for our area high school students and the instructors who sharpen the skills and expand the minds of our youth. Schools invited to participate in this year’s exhibit are Norton, Palco, Smith Center, Logan, Phillipsburg, Hill City, Ellis, Osborne, Plainville and WaKeeney.
